A Walk on the Wild Side! - "Peppercombe" - Seasonal views of this
secluded, picturesque wooded valley meandering down to the shoreline with
its unique red cliffs, ragged rock formations and sandy beaches at low tide.
Stunning views over to Lundy Island (on a clear day), Clovelly, Hartland
Point & Saunton. Wild Flowers are in abundance in Spring & Summer
including Bluebells, Fox Gloves, Orchids, Primroses and Ransoms. Ferns and
ivy cascade down the banks either side of the trails and through the wooded
valley where the sunlight streams in painting the foliage in a host of soft
green hues. The silhouettes of the old knarled trees change with the seasons
with the harsh dark outlines of autumn and winter becoming softened by the
dappled sunlight in spring and summer. Hideaway cottages complete this idyllic
scene where you can enjoy a peaceful stroll with nothing but the sound of
birds calling, the rustling of leaves and trickling water from the stream
which runs down the valley to the sea. It's a relaxing stroll down but if
you are with the family, check tide timetables and don't carry too much
as it seems a lot longer on the way back - the good news is that there are
now wooden benches strategically placed at various stages on the main route.
There are two routes down so you can choose either one, visit the beach
and return on the other side. Seasoned walkers can join the coastal path
up through the Bluebell Woods leading to Bucks Mills and Clovelly or westward
to Abbotsham, Greencliffe and Westward Ho! Access at Horns Cross on the
A39 between Bideford and Clovelly. >Peppercombe
