SPRINGTIME IN THE VALLEY
National Trust - Entrance to Peppercombe Valley
"The Gate" - Peppercombe Seasons

If you want to capture the essence of this beautiful valley then the best time to enjoy Peppercombe in all its natural glory is the springtime when you can see a host of wild flowers including bluebells, foxgloves. primroses and, if you look a little more closely, you will find wild orchids peeping through the foliage on either side of the tracks. The newly emerging fronds of the many ferns coil upwards from the rusty bracken and once fully formed appear almost translucent when catching the sunlight in stark contrast to the darkness of the trees and the rich black soil. The strong aroma is from the ransoms or wild garlic which form a low-lying white carpet up and down the banks and under the trees. Visit the North Devon Focus Picture Tour to view more images of Peppercombe Valley, the towns, villages, coast and countryside around Bideford Bay.
